Fellowship of the Fraternity of Saint Cecilia

Yesterday I received the news that I have been admitted to the Fraternity of Saint Cecilia as a Fellow.

Both as a Musician and Music Publisher I regularly work with religious music. As a Musician I have made music as part of the liturgy, as well as having made music of religious character outside the liturgy, and as a Composer I have written music suitable for liturgical purposes. As a Music Publisher I run a small publishing company, of which a significant part of the catalogue contains (Organ) music suitable for use as part of the liturgy.

As written out in the Constitution of the Fraternity, the Fraternity’s objects are ‘the promotion of the highest standards of musical performance, composition and study, particularly (but not exclusively) in relation to music in the context of worship’. Through my work as described above, and my approach to music and being a musician (i.e.; seeing it as a duty to always improve the standards of my work and both personally and professionally being interested in liturgy and liturgical music), I recognise and endorse the Fraternity's objects, and it is a privilege to be part of a Fraternity and community of musicians who share these objects, values and interests.
