AMusLCM diploma in Music Literacy

Today I have been awarded the Associateship of the London College of Music, by successfully completing an exam in Music Literacy for an Associate diploma.

Immediately after sitting the ABRSM Grade 8 certificate exam in Music Theory in November 2016, I continued the journey of studying Music Theory and Literacy by starting to work towards this Music Literacy exam on Associate level, which took place on the 17th of June in Sheffield. The task was to complete the following 9 exam components within 6 hours of time:

  1. Analysis of a previous unseen work;
  2. Harmonic analysis of a previous unseen work;
  3. Harmonisation of a Chorale, in the style of J.S. Bach;
  4. Writing Counterpoint (opening bars given), in the style of Bach, Handel or Telemann;
  5. Writing for Piano (opening bars given), style: Romantic;
  6. Writing for Woodwind quartet, style: Serial, based on a given/previous unseen row;
  7. Writing of a Passacaglia for Organ, based on a given/previous unseen theme;
  8. Writing of an essay, herewith answering questions on Bach's St. Matthew Passion, first part (BWV 244);
  9. Writing of an essay, herewith answering questions and providing analysis of Bach's 4 Duets (BWV 802-805).

Many thanks to my Music Theory teacher Gareth Green for the lessons and many happy hours of studying music so extensively. Also thanks to Steve Osborn, the exam representative in Sheffield on the -bright and very hot- exam day.
